Located in Skagen, Denmark’s northernmost point, this summer house honors local architecture and the town’s history by using materials inspired by the Black Period’s charred wood houses, featuring a thatched roof and black-painted exterior. The interior design prioritizes togetherness among three generations, incorporating open communal spaces like the central kitchen, as well as private areas under a continuous pitched roof. Acoustic considerations were crucial, leading to the inclusion of an acoustic ceiling. With a focus on connecting the interior with the surrounding nature, the kitchen acts as the heart of the house, fostering seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. The lower ceiling heights in specific zones create intimate atmospheres, contrasting the open social areas. Utilizing muted colors and Douglas fir supplied by Danish company Dinesen, the design emphasizes a tactile, warm ambiance that integrates the house with its natural setting.

Palazzo Luce is the first hotel conceptualised as an art and design residence. A fourteenth century building with a contemporary twist, located in the ancient heart of Lecce. The monumental volumes of the historic building and the most contemporary creative forms are in dialogue, magnified by the diffused and sensitive brightness that characterizes the space, inspiring its name. Located on the rocky coastline of the island Dalarö, Olson Kundig’s Dalarö House stands as a retreat that fully integrates into its environment. At the heart of the house is a spacious living room and open kitchen, flanked by bedrooms and bathrooms. The interiors are meant to evoke a rustic beach house atmosphere with oak floors, casework, and ceilings, including tall walls of exposed concrete. The clerestory windows allow natural light to penetrate deep into the house to foster a bright and airy atmosphere, while floor-to-ceiling grazing provides beautiful views of the rocks and water beyond. The house is complemented by a flagstone pathway that leads to the water and docks below.
